Online Quilt Classes

Introducing Online Classes for individuals

I usually teach at local quilt shops, but due to the pandemic, I’ve become more versatile. Teaching for Guilds and Quilt venues online, using Zoom, allowed me to gather several classes that I would normally teach in-person and format them so I can teach for you in the comfort of your own home. Here is a short video that will tell you what’s available for the next several months.

Video of classes available.

I also teach private 1-hour classes through Lessonface. If there’s something you want to learn and would like to have a private lesson, choosing to have a 1:1 lesson is a great opportunity. To see all of the information and my background, click on the Lessonface link above and it will take you straight to my page. I can teach you anything you want to learn.

COLOR SENSE

Join me for a whole week of excellent LIVE instruction, via Zoom. There’s nothing better than to be able to immerse yourself into a class and study with one instructor for a whole week.

Color Sense for Quilting is all about how to choose the fabrics for your quilts. (This is not a color theory class.) The quilt, as shown in the photo, is 64″ x 64″, but you can make it bigger if you’d like — I will have instructions for that.

I will teach you how to:

  • Consider your fabrics and learn to “read” them
  • Give you the key to choosing fabrics
  • How to pick a color palette for your quilt using colors that you love
  • Practice playing with fabrics

Then:

  • How to cut accurately
  • How to design unique blocks
  • How to sew accurately and achieve precise seams and points
  • Layout your quilt for maximum WOW

We’ll also discuss:

  • Color Trends
  • Fabric manufacturing
  • What works and what doesn’t

Registration is limited for this class. (Class is open to 24 students)

Class dates are Monday through Friday.

Class times are 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Central. We’ll have class instruction, then independent work time — with breaks throughout the day.

All instruction is via Zoom. I use multiple cameras, so you can see everything in detail that you need to know. I’m a very hands-on teacher, even virtually. The instruction is interactive, so you ask questions when they come to you — not at the end of a teaching segment.

The supply list and kit contents will be emailed upon registration.

QUILTMAKING 101

Join me for ten weeks of excellent LIVE instruction via Zoom.

Create a sampler quilt, one technique at a time, that will help you learn to make a quilt from A to Z. Whether you’re a beginner, or a seasoned quilt maker, this class will help you to learn,  and refresh – or hone – your skills. I’ll bet that you’ve never taken a class quite like this one.

Quiltmaking 101 is a ten-week class that will take you on a quilt journey. This sampler of quilt techniques includes:

  • Strip-piecing
  • half square triangles
  • hand applique (don’t be afraid of this – it’s super easy, and not needle turn!)
  • hand piecing
  • y-seam construction
  • drafting
  • templates
  • layouts
  • finishing are only a part of it.

This is an in-depth class for every level of quilter. You just need to know your way around your sewing machine.

We begin with one block and 6 fat quarters and build as you go to learn a treasury of quilting techniques and tricks.

The first night of class, I will go over:

  • the Anatomy of a quilt, what are the parts and elements.
  • How to choose the fabrics for your quilt, and I will advise you on your choices.
  • All of the notions we will use for this class so you know what they are and where to find them for the best price.
  • How to use your rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat — and how to change the blade on your rotary cutter.

You’ll add notions along the way that are essential tools for your quilt kit.

The size of the quilt depends on how big you want to make it. Just blocks with sashing and no border: 58″ x 58″. Blocks with sashing and border: 74″ x 74″. Add additional block and make it a bed-size quilt, with sashing and borders: 74″ x 84″. Or you can make it a Queen or a King, just by adding more blocks of your choice, and borders.

You need to have a copy of this book, that we’ll use as a text book:

Quilts! Quilts!! Quilts!!! by Diana McClun and Laura Nownes. It must be the Second Edition of the book and look exactly like the picture above, with the gold triangle in the upper right hand corner. The book is out of print, and can be found on Amazon, thrift books.com, and other internet used booksellers – and also at your local second hand bookstore (and maybe even the Goodwill store). AND – you’ll be able to find it at a good price. I have pictures of the other editions where you register, so you can see the difference in the book covers.

Garden Delights is a quilt with a variety of techniques. The quilt is 55″ x 55″.

The quilt is a combination of:

  • the Carolina Lily block — so you’ll learn Y-seam construction, using one little trick to make the piecing easier than you think.
  • My Butterfly block — you’ll learn how to draft a block, just in case you want to make a block that you’ve seen but don’t have a pattern for. Then we’ll make templates for piecing.
  • The machine applique block, easy shapes so you can learn the basics of my method for machine applique.
  • Then YOU design the triangle corners.

Done in any color combinations, this quilt will be sensational.

Some additional information about Annie’s Online classes:

All instruction is via Zoom. I use multiple cameras, so you can see everything in detail that you need to know. I’m a very hands-on teacher, even virtually. The instruction is interactive, so you ask questions when they occur to you — not at the end of a teaching segment. I’ll send the Zoom link to you three days before the class starts. In the case of multiple day/session classes, the Zoom link will remain the same.

If you need assistance during class, I will spotlight you and help you through it. I prefer to use the Spotlight so I can see what you need help with, and it’s also good for the other students can observe and learn.

I offer kits of specific things that are either hard to find, or can be expensive if you have to buy a whole package, in an effort to help you keep your costs down. You will have the option of purchasing the Kit, or not. If there is a pattern included in the Kit, there will be an option to get just the pattern — but you do need to purchase the pattern for the class. All Kit costs include shipping, but do not include tax, if applicable.
